Welcome to the White Horse Challenge

The White Horse Challenge (WHC) is a legendary spring sportive set in the breathtaking countryside of Wiltshire, Oxfordshire, and Berkshire. The challenge has been a fixture in the UK cycling calendar for over two decades, raising more than £170,000 for charity and drawing riders from across the country.

Each white horse you pass is a symbol of time – some prehistoric, some Victorian, all part of a journey that blends physical challenge with cultural depth.

Whether you're chasing personal goals or riding for the joy of the journey, WHC blends beauty, heritage, and endurance into a single unforgettable day.

Distances    70 miles (approx. 112 km) or 90 miles (145 km)
Entry Fee    From £40 (£50 on the day)

Money raised from this event will be donated to the Prospect Hospice. They offer unparalleled end-of-life care services for a community of more than 330,000 people in Swindon, Marlborough and north east Wiltshire.

The Route: Ride the Chalk Horses

The White Horse Challenge takes you through a rich landscape filled with ancient monuments, charming villages, and stunning views. Along the way, you’ll pass:

• Uffington White Horse – Britain’s oldest chalk figure, dating back over 3,000 years.

• Broad Town White Horse – A distinctive modern hill figure near Swindon.

• Cherhill White Horse – Cut in 1780, overlooking the historic A4 coaching route.

• Hackpen White Horse – Carved in 1838 and sitting high on the Marlborough Downs.

Other highlights include:

• The Neolithic Avebury Stone Circle

• The Ridgeway National Trail

• Rolling Marlborough and Lambourn Downs

• Historic Saxon town of Cricklade

• Villages such as Hannington and Castle Eaton

With a mix of flat lanes, rolling hills, and punchy climbs, this route offers a rewarding challenge and truly epic scenery.
